and learn to put it first.
Hello There!
Whether you're navigating the challenges of anxiety, depression, stress, or simply looking to enhance your overall well-being, I am here to lend a helping hand. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, and I’m here to empower you on your path to a brighter, healthier future.
Let's walk this journey together!
Welcome!
Are you a young person, feeling overwhelmed by stress from school, work, or relationships? Do you find it challenging to cope with anxiety, deal with past trauma, adjust to life changes, or feel unsure about yourself? If so, I might be a good fit for you and your therapy needs. My experience derives from working with young people in schools, detention centers, and inpatient care facilities for the last 10 years.
As a solution-focused clinician, I am certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as well as trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). I can teach you simple, effective stress-relieving techniques that complement talk therapy. My non-judgmental approach balances the need to listen and validate your experiences while also challenging you to address and resolve life barriers.
I specialize in helping children and young adults navigate challenges and build resilience. While I deeply value the opportunity to help others, I've found that my skills and modalities are best suited to working with adolescents and young adults who do not require frequent support for acute needs or crisis management as my schedule may not accommodate your needs.
Past and current clients have described my style as empathetic, authentic, warm, energetic and supportive, all with a touch of "tough love".
Managing your mental health can be challenging whether you are facing new obstacles or have an existing diagnosis. Here there is no judgment, only a listening ear with positive regard and empathy. Change begins with your mindset and if you're willing, I can help.
Meet Sasha!
Hello, and welcome to my website!
When I'm not in the therapy room, you can often find me enjoying the company of my family, husband and 3 four-legged children, exploring new destinations through travel, discovering new recipes or jamming out to the sounds of 90's R&B and house music.
I believe that these moments of joy and relaxation outside of work are essential for maintaining balance and perspective, ultimately benefiting the work I do with my clients.
What is therapy?
Therapy is a safe, non-judgmental and confidential opportunity to acquire skills to become your best self.
I integrate a plethora of therapeutic modalities including elements of CBT, DBT, person centered, solution focused, strengths based and mindfulness therapy.
DBT
-
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidenced based treatment that addresses maladaptive ideas and behaviors by way of addressing deficits in emotional regulation, interpersonal skills, mindfulness and distress tolerance with the ultimate goal to learn more adaptive skills to manage stress.
-
DBT works by teaching people to acknowledge and accept their thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and teach practical techniques to change them.
-
Sessions will focus on learning new skills to replace unhelpful behaviors and help you achieve your goals. Homework is to be expected :)
-
DBT is proven to be successful for those who are committed to making positive changes in themselves, ready to work hard at therapy, do homework assignment and ready to focus mostly on your present and future, rather than your past.
EMDR
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a technique used to help individuals process and heal from traumatic or distressing memories. It involves guided bilateral stimulation to reduce the emotional intensity of these memories leading to symptom relief and emotional recovery.
-
EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. This process helps reduce emotional distress and allow the development of more adaptive beliefs ultimately leading to symptom relief and emotional healing.
-
Depending on what phase of the treatment you are in, your therapist will guide you through a series of questions or ask you to focus on a memory or emotional sensation while you watch their hand as it moves gently across your field of vision (other mechanics that reflect bilateral movement). As the hand movement simulates the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) we experience during sleep, painful memories are triggered, processed, and eventually reprogrammed without the painful, negative sensations blocking the mind’s ability to self-heal the emotional turmoil.
-
EMDR therapy is appropriate for people experiencing anxiety, stress, panic, trauma, depression, phobias, grief, loss, behavior issues, and substance abuse. Those with co-occurring psychological disorders and some physical illnesses may not be suitable for EMDR therapy.
